On November 26th 2015 I was invited by Mrs Natalia Dancu, who is a history teacher at a secondary school in Baia Mare, to take part (with three of my creations) to an interactive history lesson. Mrs. Dancu had a laudable idea to suggest her pupils to study additionally (besides their history program, which only contains the History of Romania) the history of their hometown, one additional hour per week. She also organized school trips to different local historical objectives such as: Sf. Stefan’s Tower, the Citadel Square.
I myself being an enthusiast of the local history and investing great passion in these three LEGO creations, I took part to a wonderful lesson along with the seventh graders.
I’ve presented my Tower and Citadel Square making a parallel between the two LEGO creations and the history of their real meaning. I have also answered the questions the students had about the possibilities you are given by LEGO to create different historical constructions and ways of representing the details as realistic as possible. Although the citadel square wasn’t finished, the students still managed to discover many important details given by the LEGO pieces representing the new square due to their visit there. Besides these memories, I wanted to leave the students with some tangible ones, so I gave each of them a personalized keychains made of LEGO pieces (representing walls, roofs, structures).
I hope that with Mrs. Dancu, we’ve managed to instil more passion towards history and why not LEGO….
